Even Staryk society is relatively well described, with the author going into as much detail as would be appropriate for a POV of a person whose interaction with them is limited. The three female protagonists are especially complex and realistically portrayed. I’m delighted to say the book surpassed them.Įach chapter is written in first person perspective, and we get POVs from 6 different characters, each with their own distinct voice.

He had come with his krupnik and his clever plans and got my father drunk and built this rage in him like a fire, and now it was burning everything and he wanted to run away from it.
